Small shop POS: a day-one checklist

The first day with a new till goes smoothly when the basics are ready before the first customer walks in.

The first day with a new POS goes smoothly when the basics are ready before the first customer arrives. This is the short list we use.

Before you open

  • Products and prices. Enter your top 20 sellers first. You can add the rest while you trade.
  • Tax and discounts. Set the rates once so every receipt is correct from the first sale.
  • Cashier accounts. Give each person their own login, so the end-of-day report shows who sold what.
  • Receipt printer and cash drawer. Print a test receipt and open the drawer once, before the doors open.

During the day

  • Ring up sales as normal and fix small mistakes later, not at the counter.
  • Note any product that is missing from the list and add it after closing.

When you close

  1. Print the daily sales report.
  2. Count the cash drawer and compare it with the report.
  3. Back up your data, or check that the automatic backup finished.

Bilak POS is built around exactly this routine: one small shop, one till, ready in minutes.

Running a shop, a clinic, or a back office? There's probably a B-Codex tool for it.
